Rain lashed central Delhi on Thursday evening, with the national capital recording a maximum temperature of 33.6 degree Celsius, a notch below the season's average, according to the India Meteorological Department.

The minimum temperature settled at 23.3 degrees Celsius, 2.3 notches below the season's average, the IMD said.

The IMD predicted generally cloudy sky with moderate rain on Friday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle around 33 and 24 degrees Celsius, it said.

The humidity oscillated between 69 and 90 per cent.

The 24-hour Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded in the 'satisfactory' category with a reading of 83 at 4 pm, as per the Central Pollution Control Board.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe".

Former IAS probationer Puja Khedkar on Thursday told Delhi High Court she was willing to get herself medically examined in Aiims, after the city police claimed that one of her disability certificates may be "forged" and "fabricated".

Khedkar, who has been accused of cheating and wrongly availing Other Backward Classes (OBC) and disability quota benefits, made the submission while the court was dealing with her anticipatory bail plea in the criminal case.

"I am willing to get myself medically examined. First they say I changed my name. Now they say disability is questionable. I am willing to go to Aiims," the senior counsel appearing for Khedkar said.

Justice Subramonium Prasad listed the matter for further hearing on September 26, recording that the police have prayed for 10 more days for further investigation.

Khedkar's interim protection of arrest granted by the high court will continue till then.

The Delhi Police counsel argued that Khedkar "concealed facts" while attempting the civil services examination that she was otherwise not eligible to write.

The DPCC has prohibited the immersion of idols in the Yamuna and other water bodies and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on violators, ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi and Durga Pooja celebrations.

In an order issued by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) on Wednesday, local civil bodies have been tasked with creating temporary immersion sites or artificial ponds near residential areas.

The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) in 2019 and 2021 issued directives, prohibiting idol immersion in Ganga and its tributaries, specifying that violators will have to pay Rs 50,000 as environmental compensation.

"The Delhi Police and municipal bodies will work together to enforce these guidelines and take action against illegal idol-making operations," the DPCC order stated.

DPCC further directed the officials to monitor vehicles carrying prohibited idols.

Madhya Pradesh has received 904.9 millimetres of rainfall from June 1 to September 5, which is 10 per cent more than the annual monsoon average, as per the India Meteorological Department.
The state usually gets 823.9 mm during this period, IMD data revealed. "The state's normal rainfall is 949 mm from June 1 to September 30. It is 1043.4 mm for east MP and 877.3 mm for the state's western part," IMD's Bhopal Centre meteorologist V S Yadav informed on Thursday. "East MP received 953.9 mm against 823.9 mm normal rainfall, which is a rise of 6 per cent. West MP registered 867.2 mm rainfall against its normal of 766.4 mm or 13 per cent excess," Yadav informed. Sheopur district leads with 1087.7 mm rainfall against its normal 600.5 mm, thus registering 81 per cent increase, IMD data showed. "Rewa district received the lowest at 572.6 mm, while the normal average is 823.3 mm. This is a dip of 31 per cent," as per data from IMD's Bhopal centre. The south-west monsoon arrived over Madhya Pradesh on June 21, three days behind schedule. Balaghat district in the eastern part got the first monsoon showers in the state.

Gurugram Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Nishant Kumar Yadav said Thursday the district administration has completed all preparations for voting in the four assembly constituencies of the district.

Addressing a press conference at the Mini Secretariat on the preparations for the October 5 assembly polls, Yadav said the district administration is fully committed to ensuring a peaceful, impartial and harmonious environment for voting.

The four assembly constituencies in Gurugram district are Pataudi, Badshahpur, Sohna and Gurugram.

Yadav said there were 14,97,000 eligible voters in the district and 1,504 booths will be set up. Among these, 126 booths will be in high-rise buildings and this is expected to directly benefit around 1,50,000 voters and increase the turnout, he added.

The district election officer said 12,000 polling staff have been deployed for voting in Gurugram district and they will soon receive three levels of election process-related training.

A man was injured after being shot at Badlapur railway station in neighbouring Thane district on Thursday evening, police said.
The incident took place at platform number 1, and the assailant was immediately overpowered and taken into custody, said a Government Railway Police official.

Moderate rains were witnessed in few parts of the state since Wednesday evening forcing closure of 70 roads for vehicular traffic in Himachal Pradesh, officials said on Thursday.

The highest number of 29 roads are closed in Shimla, 18 in Mandi, 10 in Kangra, eight in Sirmaur, two in Kullu and one each in Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur and Una districts, according to the data shared by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).

National Highway 5 (the Hindustan-Tibet road) is blocked near Negulsari in Kinnaur district. As many as 13 power and one water supply scheme are also disrupted in the state, the SEOC said.
