Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee invited agitating junior doctors for a meeting at the state secretariat to resolve the impasse over the RG Kar issue on Tuesday, PTI reported. The doctors have been protesting despite multiple requests from the CJI Chandrachud-led SC bench to return to work. The bench took suo moto cognisance of the matter and have assured no action against protesting doctors should they return to work. In its last hearing on Monday, the apex court had given the doctors until 5 pm today to comply with its order.

Auto industry body Siam on Tuesday said it has elected Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Managing Director Shailesh Chandra as its new President for the 2024-25 term. Chandra, who previously served as the vice-president of Siam, succeeds Vinod Aggarwal, Managing Director & CEO of Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles (VECV), the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) said in a statement. The new office bearers were elected during the executive committee meeting held today (Tuesday), it added. Ashok Leyland MD & CEO Shenu Agarwal was elected as the vice-president of Siam for 2024-25. Daimler India Commercial Vehicles CEO & MD Satyakam Arya was also elected as the treasurer.

Former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh was on Tuesday sent to judicial custody till September 23 by a special CBI court in the financial irregularities case. The court also sent his security personnel Afsar Ali and two alleged associates, contractors Vendors Biplab Sinha and Suman Hazra, to judicial custody till September 23.

Junior doctors on strike in West Bengal have said they would continue their ‘cease work’, despite the Supreme Court's order to return to duty by 5 PM on Tuesday, September 10. The protest aims to seek justice for a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital who was sexually assaulted and killed. Additionally, the Bengal chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) expressed deep disappointment with the Supreme Court's directive to the protesting doctors on Monday.? Rallies were taken out in different parts of the Kolkata as part of an event termed ‘9-9-9’, with people assembling for nine minutes when the clock struck 9 on Monday evening, demanding justice for the RG Kar hospital doctor.

A fire broke out in the Madanpur Khadar area here early on Tuesday, damaging some shanties but no loss of life was reported, officials said. The Delhi Fire Services said they received a call about the blaze at 2.50 am and rushed 11 fire tenders. "The fire was extinguished and cooling operation is now underway. No one was injured in the blaze," said an official.

According to the India Meteorological Department, Delhi's primary weather station at Safdarjung recorded 913.1 mm of rain this season against the normal of 586.9 mm, marking a 56 per cent increase over the usual figure.

Wing commander booked for alleged rape after junior's complaint; IAF says cooperating with police probe

An FIR has been registered against a Wing Commander following complaints of rape by a woman flying officer, officials said here on Tuesday.
Both the IAF officers are currently stationed in Srinagar.
After the complaint, the FIR under "relevant sections of the law" was filed at Budgam police station in central Kashmir on Saturday, a senior police officer said.
The IAF said it is cooperating with the police.
"We are aware of the case. The Air Force Station in Srinagar was approached by the local Budgam police station on the subject. We are fully cooperating towards this case," a senior IAF official said.?

Met issues flash floods warning for six districts, 76 roads closed in Himachal

The local Met office on Tuesday warned of low to moderate flash floods in parts of six out of 12 districts -- Kinnaur, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur -- till Wednesday as moderate rains continued to lash parts of Himachal Pradesh.

A total of 76 roads, including the National Highway 5 (Hindustan-Tibet road), are closed for vehicular traffic in the state. A maximum of 34 roads are closed in Shimla, 26 in Mandi, 10 in Kangra, two in Kullu and one each in Kinnaur, Una, Sirmaur and Lahaul and Spiti districts, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) said.

As many as 43 power schemes are also disrupted in the state, the SEOC said.

NGT seeks report from CPCB on generation, treatment of e-waste

The National Green Tribunal has directed the Central Pollution Control Board to file a fresh report on the generation and treatment of electronic waste by states and Union territories.

It also asked the board to mention the action that would be taken against the states and Union territories not complying with the E-Waste (Management) Rules.

The green body was hearing a plea claiming non-compliance with its previous directions for the rules' "scientific enforcement".

In a recent order, a bench of National Green Tribunal Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava said the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) had filed a report dated August 30, mentioning the action taken by states and Union Territories regarding the green panel's directions.

The death toll in Vietnam from Typhoon Yagi and subsequent heavy rain that triggered floods and landslides climbed to 87 on Tuesday, with 70 people missing and hundreds injured, state media said.

Typhoon Yagi was the strongest typhoon to hit Vietnam in decades when it made landfall Saturday with winds of up to 149 kph (92 mph). It killed nine people and then weakened Sunday, but continuing downpours triggered floods and landslides.

Vietnamese state broadcaster VTV reported that 87 people have died and 70 remain missing. Most of the deaths were caused by flooding and landslides, it said.
