Baramati, Maharashtra
Baramati (between 18 degrees 04 minutes to 18 degrees 32 minutes north latitudes and 74 degrees 26 minutes to 74 degrees 69 minutes east longitudes) is located in the Pune division of Maharashtra, about 250 kilometres from Mumbai. It is one of the 48 Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in the state. It comprises six Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments- Daund, Indapur, Baramati, Purandar, Bhor, and Khadakwasala.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the Congress, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are the main parties in the constituency. The Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra is known as the biggest stronghold of the NCP. The constituency is a general seat and not reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).

Elections 2024
With 2,561 polling stations, Baramati Lok Sabha constituency is going to polls on May 7 in the third round of the seven-phase general elections. The results will be announced on 4 June following the conclusion of the general elections.

Candidates
Ajit Pawar's wife and NCP leader Sunetra Pawar and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader and Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule are the main candidates in the Baramati constituency of Maharashtra. While Sule, a Sansad Ratna awardee, is seeking a fourth term in the Lower House of Parliament, Sunetra Pawar, who is an office-bearer of various educational and industry bodies and has been active in the social sphere of Baramati, is contesting her maiden Lok Sabha election.

It is for the first time that two members of the influential Pawar family are contesting against each other. This is also the first major electoral battle between the factions after the party split in July last year. In February, the Election Commission (EC) recognised the Ajit Pawar-led faction of the NCP as the official party and granted it the party's "clock" symbol while allotting "Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar" as the party name for the group led by Sharad Pawar.

Voters
According to the data from the Election Commission of India (ECI), there were 2,114,663 voters in the Baramati constituency during the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. Out of this, 1,112,357 voters were male, 1,002,273 were female voters, and 33 voters belonged to the third gender. As many as 5,486 were postal votes in the constituency. The number of service voters in Baramati in 2019 was 2,255 (2,190 were men and 65 were women).

Political history
Sharad Pawar represented the Baramati constituency six times in a row in 1984, 1991 (bypoll), 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2004. Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule has been representing the seat since 2009.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, NCP's Supriya Sule won the seat for the second time. She received 521,562 votes with a vote share of 48.88 per cent. Rashtriya Samaj Paksha (RAPS) candidate Mahadev Jagannath Jankar, backed by the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, got 451,843 votes (42.35 per cent) and was the runner-up. Sule defeated Jankar by a margin of 69,719 votes. The total number of valid votes polled in this constituency was 1066,556. Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) candidate Suresh Khopade came third with 26,396 votes (2.47 per cent).

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, NCP candidate and Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule won the seat for the third time in a row with a margin of 155,774 votes. She was polled 686,714 votes with a vote share of 52.53 per cent. She defeated BJP candidate Kanchan Rahul Kul who got 530,940 votes (40.61 per cent). The total number of valid votes polled was 1,304,728. Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi (VBA) candidate Navanath Padalkar stood third with 44,134 votes (3.38 per cent).
